Quinn awoke in the desert and womp rats dragged his barely conscious body to their underground warren to feed on him.  He managed to frighten them off with his lightsaber, and felt moisture tricking down the warren tunnels.  Following their source, he found himself beneath some surface machinery and called for help.  Choree Kie, T-101 and Ark'ik heard his cries for help coming from beneath a moisture vaporator, and as the army of Treadwell caretaker droids closed in to attack them, they extricated Quinn from the warren tunnel.  With Quinn's help, they defeated the attacking Treadwell droids and filled jugs with water from the vaporators to sell at Mos Espa.

En route, they encountered a swoop gag, the Valerian Swoopers, who were loyal to Lady Valerian, a Whiphid crime queen pin and the main competitor of the now deceased Jabba the Hutt.  Though the Swoopers' initial intention was highway robbery, Quinn, whom they recognized as a celebrity podracer, informed them of Jabba's death and convinced them to join a business venture selling the vaporator water.  The Swoopers agreed and transported Quinn, Choree Kie, Ark'ik and T-101 to Mos Epsa.  Emboldened by the death of the Hutt, however, the Swoopers pillaged the town.  Convincing the local sheriff to provide him with a cargo transport, Quinn convinced the Swoopers to take him to Lady Valerian to inform her of the new power vacuum on Tatooine, and of Quinn's new business venture. 

 

The Swoopers transported Quinn, Choree Kie, T-101 and Ark'ik to Mos Eisley, to a battered old cargo hauler named The Lucky Despot that had previously been a hotel and casino and now served as Valerian's offices.  The gangleader of the Valerian Swoopers, Strabler, escorted them inside, but exhorted them to wait in the hall outside her office until he called them inside.  He entered, and the party could see the hulking, hairy crime queenpin beyond the threshold.  Strabler entered, and the door closed behind him...
